PRIVACY POLICY

The Foundation has prepared these privacy and security policies (the “Privacy Policy”) so you may better understand how the website located at GivingMatters.com (the “Site”) collects and uses your personal information, as well as how it protects your information against unauthorized use. Please take the time to review this Privacy Policy and contact us at givingmatters@cfmt.org (via electronic mail) if you have any questions or concerns.

BY ACCESSING AND USING THE SITE IN ANY WAY, YOU ARE ACCEPTING THE PRACTICES DESCRIBED IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

The Information That We Collect

The Foundation does not, as a general matter, collect personal information, such as the names or mailing addresses of visitors to the Site, unless it is voluntarily provided.  However, we may, without your permission, electronically collect information regarding your online habits and location, including, without limitation, navigational data (i.e., log files, server logs, click-stream) and information about how the Site is used by you (through cookies, Internet tags, or web beacons). We may also collect information such as the URL of the website you previously visited and the time of day that you use the Site.

Although the Foundation generally does not collect personal information, we may decide to make certain aspects of the page subject to registration requirements.  In connection therewith, to use certain parts of the Site (e.g., areas through which you can submit content to the Site), you may be asked to provide certain information about yourself, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address, username and password. We may also compile a subscription list to which you could voluntarily submit your name, mailing address and/or email address.  The purpose of such a subscription list would be to send out periodic updates to subscribers on matters of interest, provided that you will have the ability to opt out of further communications in accordance with procedures that will be described in each such update.

The Foundation does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from users under the age of 13. If we find out that we have such personal information, we will take prompt and reasonable steps to delete it.

When you make a donation through the Site, you will be asked to provide certain personal information, including financial information.  The Foundation will transfer all such information to Network For Good™ (“NFG”), which is a service provider that assists us in processing donations made by users through the Site.  Following such transfer of information to NFG, the Foundation will not retain any of your financial information; however, the Foundation may cause its service-provider GuideStar.com to retain certain personal information such as your name, address, phone number and donation history. Further, the Foundation or GuideStar.com may receive certain non-financial information back from NFG from time to time.  All such information will be used only as described in this Privacy Policy under “Use of Information.” In addition to reading this Privacy Policy, which describes how your personal information is used by the Foundation and its service providers, it is your responsibility to read NFG’s privacy and security policies related to how they will use, protect and disseminate the information you submit when making a donation through the Site.

Information Collected by Third Parties on the Site

The Site may display third-party advertisements.  In certain cases, the Foundation may allow third-party ad-serving companies or ad networks to display advertisements on the Site. Some of these ad networks may place a persistent cookie via the Site or a third party site through which they serve ads in order to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement regardless of the site on which the ad is displayed. Thus, third party ad-serving companies or ad networks may compile information about where you are using your computer, where you saw their advertisements, and which ads you clicked on. This information allows the third party to deliver targeted advertisements that it believes will be of interest to you. The Foundation does not have access to the cookies that may be placed by the third-party ad-serving companies or ad networks. We will not share information that will specifically identify you to an ad-serving company or ad network unless we receive your prior, affirmative consent.

USE OF INFORMATION

Personal Information

To the extent you submit content to public areas of the Site, it will be available to the public and we may reuse and republish such information at our discretion and in accordance with our Terms of Use.  Please understand that you submit such content at your own risk.

To the extent that you submit your personal information to the Site through a registration procedure or to a subscription list, we may use such personal information to provide you with targeted content, information, and advertising (on our Site, in newsletters, via e-mail, etc.).  Additionally, we may use the information (other than financial information) that you submit when making donations through the Site to provide a database that helps you keep track of the history of your donations to nonprofit organizations. Any information regarding the history of your donations will not be shared with third parties other than in connection with assembling such a donation history.

We may use anonymous and aggregated data to create statistics and reports for various business purposes and to aggregate such anonymous data and share it with our advertisers or the Foundation’s service providers or business partners in order to offer you potentially desirable products and services; however, such data will not include information that enables such third parties to identify you individually without your information.  The personal information compiled in our registration and subscription databases will not be shared with any marketing firms without the express consent of the registrant or subscriber.

We may also use your personal information to identify which account or IP address user to terminate in the event that we decide to terminate your use of, or registration on, the Site as required by applicable law or pursuant to our Terms of Use.  We may also share your personal information to respond to law enforcement requests, court orders, or other legal processes; if we believe that such disclosure is necessary to investigate, prevent, or respond to illegal activities, fraud, and physical threats to you or others; or as otherwise required by any applicable law or regulation.

Website Usage Information

The website usage information (e.g., log files, cookies, Internet tags, web beacons, etc.) we collect from you will be used to (a) monitor the operation, technical functions and quality of the Site, (b) compile general statistics regarding use of the Site, and (c) analyze demographic information about the Site’s users. We may also use such information for research or improvements of the Site and the services we offer you. This data is also used by the Foundation to deliver customized content and advertising to you when your online behavior indicates that you are interested in a particular subject area.

Service Providers

The Foundation may provide information to service providers to help us operate the Site and to provide the services that are offered through the Site. This type of sharing may include disclosures to independent contractors and other third parties who host the Site, help deliver e-mail updates, provide technical support or process payments for donations or other products or services offered through the Site (for example, the Foundation will transfer to Network For Good™ and GuideStar.com certain information about users when they make a donation through the Site).  These third-party providers will be obligated to treat your personal information with a level of confidentiality and security consistent with the standards in this Privacy Policy.

Search engines and other sites not affiliated with the Foundation, such as archive.org or google.com, may crawl the Site and make available to the public publicly-available content and postings from the Site.  The Site may also contain links to other websites. The Foundation is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other web sites. The Foundation encourages its visitors and user to be aware when they leave the Site and to read the privacy statement of each website they visit.

HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT THE FOUNDATION CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT EVERY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION IS COMPLETELY SECURE. SITE USERS POST AND TRANSMIT INFORMATION AT THEIR OWN RISK.

MODIFICATIONS TO THE PRIVACY POLICY

The Foundation reserves the right, for any reason, in its sole discretion, to change, modify, update, add or remove portions of this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify you of any material changes to this Privacy Policy by posting a notice on the Site; however, you should check this Privacy Policy periodically for changes.
