Mission Statement
The mission of The Educators' Cooperative is to create and maintain a professional network of
teachers who work in classrooms and schools all over Nashville. Working together across the
boundaries of private, public, and charter schools, Cooperative teachers meet and learn
together in order to serve, support, and strengthen the vital work happening in classrooms all
over our city.

The Educators' Cooperative creates the space for PreK-12 teachers teaching in all school types
in Nashville to collaborate and share best practices in teaching and learning. The first stage is a
week long summer workshop in which cohorts meet to learn methods and protocols for finding
solutions to instructional dilemmas, sharing effective classroom management strategies
including mindfulness and social-emotional learning, unconferencing, design-thinking, and
more. Following the summer workshop, teachers meet monthly at different schools all over the
city to continue the conversations, support, learning, growth, and development. Teachers stay
connected in our online forums where plans, units, conversations, book clubs, and coordinate
meetings and observation schedules.

Cooperative teachers are able to develop and exercise their leadership capacity while staying
in the classroom. They are leaders in their schools from whom other faculty members can seek
input, feedback, resources, and connections to the larger Nashville education community.

Description

Once the summer workshop is over, we enter the second phase of the Cooperative. Cooperative teachers share resources, provide professional support and problem solving, and share experiences and best practices in teaching and learning in a private online workspace, as well as at our monthly meetings hosted by schools in neighborhoods all over Nashville.

Our monthly meetings are a mix of sharing the latest from our classrooms, following up on our online conversations, asking for help, support, or resources, and school visits. They provide a rare opportunity to see schools all over the city – the classrooms, faculty lounges, libraries, labs, and student work spaces all offer a great deal of information and new ideas.
