Background While our son was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor we saw a great need for financial assistance in the families around us. Many of the families in the clinic were, and are, dual income households. Treatments for life threatening illnesses are often lengthy. This reality can cause financial hardships as massive amounts of unpaid leave are neccessary, and often jobs are forfeited so that the child can receive all the appropriate care they need. With changes in income as well as mounting medical bills and the high cost of prescriptions most families find themselves not only heartbroken as they watch their child suffer, but stressed as they struggle to maintain their financial footing.
Other ways to donate, support, or volunteer The Wonderful Life Foundation holds an annual holiday fundraiser that is supported by corporate sponsors, we are always interested in welcoming new sponsors for this and any other fundraising events. Our sponsors provide all the money needed to host the event so that 100% of all donations benefit the families we serve. This year we will be adding a   fundraiser and are seeking further sponsorships and partners for the event.  Further ways to support the Foundation include, donated auction items for the Holiday event, in kind donations of catered food or performances by musicians, and volunteers to assist with the Holiday event. The Foundation also can receive checks by mail, or in person. The Wonderful Life Foundation website also offers the opportunity to donate by clicking on the donate button. We are always happy to discuss any other options or creative suggestions donors may have by phone or email.

Description The Wonderful Life Foundation provides financial assistance to families experiencing compounding financial distress due to a ongoing life threatening pediatric illness. Job loss, massive amounts of unpaid leave from work and other unforeseen complications often arise as treatments lengthen, this coupled with medical bills and rising prescription costs often financially cripple what once were dual income households. We assist with needs such as a mortgage payments  for families that are on the brink of eviction. We also assist with car payments as a vehicle is often needed to get to work and for medical treatments. We also assist with requests that other organizations may not have the ability to, such as an airline ticket for a family member to stay with siblings as treatments become aggressive or are sought out in a different state. Funeral bills are a way that the Foundation has been able to contribute to as well as food and lodging when a child must be treated in a speciality program that is out of state.

CEO Comments The Foundation was founded while our child was undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. The Foundation was born out of a strong drive and desire to help those families around us as we attended clinic visits and other treatments. It started out small and as the annual event for the Foundation grew and word spread of our cause we developed a board of directors. These board members are qualified friends, and staff members of our small business who witnessed our battle with cancer. They have been with the Foundation and our family as valued supporters both in event planning, progression of funding and the healing of our child. The board has a range of professional experience in fund raising, event planning, financial fields, the non profit sector, and in small business operations.

Organization Comments The Wonderful Life Foundation has operated financially due to our generous sponsors who provide all the backing for our annual holiday event. This method of operation allows 100% of the donations given at the event to be used for the needs of our clients.The Foundation has no over head to maintain therefore every donation we receive is able to be used to assist our clients.We recently have hired one contract worker who is being paid through a sponsor to the Foundation. It is our goal to continue to build upon our sponsors and donors so that our combined efforts may benefit more families with the assistance they need. We are adding an additional event for fundraising this year. Our long term goal is to have three fundraising events a year. This plan provides us with both challenges, and exciting opportunities as we work to increase our number of sponsors and partners. This will in turn increase our ability to further engage varying communities with added education of the compounding stressors both emotional and financial our clients face and ways our community can support them. The dramatic achievements of public health in the 20th century have improved our quality of life in a myriad of ways, including an increase in life expectancy, worldwide reduction of infant and child mortality rates, and the elimination or reduction of many communicable diseases. In Middle Tennessee, improvements in preventive medicine and advanced medical technology have resulted in increased life expectancy and improved health for many residents.
